Pool Resurfacing in Simi Valley

Simi Valley is one of the hottest parts of Ventura County in summer, and it has a large number of backyard pools, many built as the city grew from the 1960s through the 1980s. Heat, hard water, and pool age together make resurfacing and tile work common here.

Heat and water chemistry

High summer temperatures speed evaporation, which concentrates calcium and dissolved solids. That leads to scale on tile and rough, chalky plaster over time. Heat also burns off chlorine quickly, so chemistry can swing. Consistent testing (including calcium hardness and alkalinity), a cover when the pool isn’t in use, and periodic partial water replacement help a finish last.

Wind and dust

Santa Ana winds blow dust and debris into the valley. Fine dust clouds water, loads filters, and can leave a gritty film on surfaces. After wind events, clean the filter and test the water.

Older pools

For older Simi Valley pools, expect a resurfacing job to involve chip-out of worn plaster, tile replacement, and coping and deck joint repair. Ask contractors to inspect skimmers and fittings after draining.

Timing

Plastering in extreme heat requires careful timing and crew planning, because heat speeds curing. Many contractors prefer to plaster early in the day in summer. Ask how they handle hot-weather application.

Permits and draining

The City of Simi Valley handles building permits for remodel work that needs one. Follow city rules for draining; pool water shouldn’t go into the street or storm drain, which flows to the Arroyo Simi.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Simi Valley pool plaster rough?

Heat and evaporation concentrate minerals, and chemistry swings can etch or scale plaster. Regular testing for calcium and alkalinity helps.

Can pools be plastered in summer heat?

Yes, but heat speeds curing, so crews often work early in the day. Ask how your contractor handles hot weather.
